Chronic pain is defined as a prolonged physical pain that lasts longer than the natural healing process.

The pain may be caused by injury, inflammation or disorders of the nervous system.

Chronic pain can make it very difficult for some people to move with ease and can stifle the ability of someone to function normally.

It can lead to addiction to pain medication, which only makes things worse.

Many people already know that emotional stress can lead to stomachaches, irritable bowel syndrome, and headaches.

But you might not know that it can also cause other physical complaints and even chronic pain.

Studies have found that the more anxious and stressed people are, the more tense and constricted their muscles are, over time causing the muscles to become fatigued and inefficient.

So, let’s take a look at 6 types of chronic pain that could be caused by emotional/psychological distress:

1. Head

Headaches or migraines can be brought on by the stress of day to day life. If you get chronic headaches, you need to take some time for yourselves on a daily basis.

Relieving the body of stress may help to ease any head pain.

2. Neck

Neck pain does not mean kids are driving you crazy!  Pain in the neck could be caused by holding on to grudges or being unable to let go of past grievances.

It may be forgiveness of another person or even forgiveness of yourself.  It is important to think about the things you love about yourself and others to fight this pain.

3. Shoulders

Shoulder pain is a sign that you may be carrying a heavy emotional burden. Basically, you’re carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders.

Try to think of ways to solve this emotional problem or share the load with trusted friends or family.

4. Upper Back

Lack of emotional support can manifest in upper back pain. Maybe you don’t feel appreciated, or you’re holding back feelings of affection.

If you’re in a relationship, have a discussion with your partner about things you are feeling. If you’re single, it might be time to branch out and meet new people!

5. Lower Back

Lower back pain may signify someone has financial worries. Try to sit down and focus on managing money better or hire a financial planner. It might also be time to ask for that well-deserved raise.

6. Hips

Fear of moving, change and waiting to make a big decision could all cause pain in the hips. Change can be stressful, but chronic pain in your hips can make moving intolerable!

Make the changes you need to meet your life goals. Also, make a choice and stick with it!
