Relationships have always been complicated but never it seems, quite as complicated as they are today in the modern world of technology, social media and transparency.

The pressures of society are heavier than ever on relationships, telling you how you should feel or react to every interaction with your partner.

However, there are certain patterns and behaviors you can identify in your significant other that will tell you the chances of your romance thriving and holding strong are high.

Always be on the lookout for these things from your loved one.

1. If They’re Able To Calm You Down

Even the most even-keeled person out there occasionally loses their cool. We all have the ability at times to become very emotional and tense.

No matter whether you’re feeling anxiety, rage, sadness or just heavy stress, a person who can see you struggling and knows how to comfort you is a keeper.

Be careful though, that you don’t rely too much on the presence of a single person to keep you happy and calm all the time.

Make sure you don’t lose sight of your own self confidence or independence. You need to be strong enough to stand on your own two feet and practice healthy self love as well.

2. If They Get Your Sense Of Humor

Laughter is an essential part of life, not only as a delightful cherry-on-top during good times, but also as a way of coping when things are hard or going badly.

If you have someone in your life who understands your particular brand of humor and can share in the laughter with you, hold on tight!

3. If You Have Plenty Of Common Interests Or Hobbies

Everyone needs some hobbies in their life.

Fun leisure activities we can do outside of work and career allow us to unwind and release stress and tensions that build up from the pressures of the daily grind.

When your partner can be a part of these passions and activities and enjoy them right along with you, everybody wins.

4. If There Is Consistent Mutual Respect

Respect for each other is the cornerstone of any good relationship. It is built by honesty, reliability and trust.

If the both of you can truly respect each other as people, even in the heat of a difficult argument or stubborn disagreement, the relationship will be unbreakable.

5. If They Hold You Accountable

Of course a significant other should always do their best to support you and embrace whatever you choose to do, but sometimes the best and healthiest way to support someone is to be honest with them and call them on it when they’re not acting right.

They should never lie to you simply to spare your feelings or avoid confrontation.

If someone really loves you, they’ll call you on your bullshit, and if you really love them back, you should be receptive to their criticism and know that it comes from a place of caring and concern.
